Navy Federal Names Deputy Chief Information Officer

July 25, 2019 By admin Leave a Comment

Today Navy Federal Credit Union announced that Stephen Rice has been selected to serve as the credit union’s deputy chief information officer (DCIO). Rice previously served in the same role for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and will report directly to the credit union’s recently promoted chief information officer Tony Gallardy.

“With our members always top of mind, Stephen will bring a strong technology, service, and leadership presence to the organization that will help us serve up an exceptional experience to our more than 8 million members,” said Gallardy.

Previously, Rice served 16 years at the DHS with his most recent role being the DCIO. In that role, he oversaw the management, security, and sharing of DHS technology. Prior to stepping into the DHS DCIO role, Rice served in the Transportation Security Administration, first as DCIO and Deputy Assistant Administrator, then as CIO and Assistant Administrator for the Office of Information Technology.

“I hope to bring a fresh perspective and use my experience to further the digital developments of Navy Federal,” said Rice. “It’s even more of an honor to help lead the Information Services Department and learn from such an incredible team.”

Rice’s experience at the DHS began in the U.S. Secret Service (USSS), where he played both intelligence and technical roles. In his nearly decade-long tenure with the USSS he managed data communication teams for several Secret Service protection events, and assisted with management of telecommunications for both presidential conventions. Rice is joining the Navy Federal team who was recently named a Computerworld 2019 Best Place to Work in IT for a fifth consecutive year.
