DNIB.com’s latest report, as of the end of the second quarter in 2023, reveals that there were 356.6 million registered domain names on the internet. VeriSign, Inc. (NASDAQ: VRSN), a global provider of domain name registry services and internet infrastructure, made this announcement. This figure represents an increase of 1.7 million domain registrations (equivalent to 0.5%) compared to the first quarter of 2023. Additionally, there was a year-over-year increase of 4.3 million domain registrations (1.2%).
Specifically, the combined total of domain name registrations for .com and .net top-level domains (TLDs) at the end of Q2 2023 was 174.4 million, indicating a decrease of 0.3 million registrations (0.2%) compared to Q1 2023. Year over year, .com and .net TLDs experienced a combined increase of 0.1 million registrations (0.1%). As of June 30, 2023, there were 161.3 million .com domain name registrations and 13.1 million .net domain name registrations.
New registrations for .com and .net domains in Q2 2023 totaled 10.2 million, compared to 10.1 million registrations during the same period in 2022.
The report also highlights that total country-code TLD (ccTLD) domain name registrations reached 137.0 million at the end of Q2 2023, showing an increase of 1.1 million registrations (0.8%) compared to Q1 2023. On a year-over-year basis, ccTLDs grew by 2.7 million registrations (2.0%). The top 10 ccTLDs as of June 30, 2023, were .cn, .de, .uk, .nl, .ru, .br, .au, .fr, .eu, and .it.
Furthermore, DNIB.com introduced 16 additional TLDs in their dashboards, which impacted calculations in the report. The data presented in this edition of the quarterly report has been adjusted accordingly, and trends for both quarterly and year-over-year comparisons have been calculated using these adjusted figures.
